The Compound

In 1997, I fell in love with Vermont’s Mad River Valley. So much so that hardly a week went by without me thinking about being there. The winter of 1998, my Boston-based company rented a ski condo. I used it every weekend and even found myself scheduling work travel around my trips to Vermont, rather than the other way around. When it came time to give up the condo in the spring of 1999, I asked for a month extension and hired a realtor from Graves Real Estate.

We looked and looked and looked some more – nothing seemed ‘right’. Then while looking at some MLS listings, i found a little 4 acre parcel with a cobbled-together ski house and a tall barn. It was full of cobwebs and being shared with a renter. After the first 5 minutes, i knew i had to have it.

I bought ‘vickeryhill.com’ and made an offer. My company in Boston imploded under immoral actions and I escaped to Vermont with my smile intact. The rest is history
