Well, it was a long time in the making, but after dad's death on Super Bowl Sunday just after i returned from Michigan, Carrie and I decided to go ahead with our plans to renovate our little cabin/chalet in the vermont's green mountains.

They are almost finished with the deck and one length of soffit is stained and mounted. Not bad for 7 days of work so far...

Sunday, June 29, 2008: The Phoenix burns with a little help from some Vermont firefighters

We estimated rebuilding costs for the roof, the foundation, the siding, the plumbing and electrical - lo and behold, it was only 10% less than building a brand new house.

So we researched the proper procedures with the State of Vermont and asked the Warren Fire Department for permission - and we burned down the house.
